Apple HomeView ships on 13 November 2026: a 7-inch square smart display with Siri AI that sits on the kitchen counter or hangs on the wall. The first question most people have is simple. Which of my smart home devices will it control, and what should I buy? This guide sorts it out, including the new Apple Home Collection and what is available where you live.
The short answer
- HomeView controls accessories that support Works with Apple Home (HomeKit) or Matter.
- It has Thread built in, the low-power radio that most Matter sensors, locks and bulbs use.
- It is also a home hub, so it handles remote access and automations, and cameras need one for live view and smart features.
- Apple's new Apple Home Collection (cameras, a doorbell, a lock and thermostats made with LG and Schneider Electric) is designed for it, but sold only in some countries.
If you want a list for your own home, the HomeView setup planner picks devices by region and goal.
HomeKit, Matter and Thread in one minute
HomeKit is Apple's own smart home system. Devices with the "Works with Apple Home" label set up in the Home app and show up on HomeView.
Matter is the shared standard of Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. A Matter device works with Apple Home even if its box doesn't mention Apple. Today most new lights, plugs, sensors, locks and thermostats ship with Matter.
Thread is the radio many Matter devices use. It needs a Thread border router in the home, and Apple lists Thread networking in HomeView's specs. A HomePod mini or an Apple TV 4K does the same job if you have one.
The Apple Home Collection
Apple announced the Home Collection on the same day as HomeView. LG makes the cameras, the doorbell, the lock and one thermostat, Schneider Electric the second thermostat. All of it supports Thread, and the lock, thermostats and sensors support Matter.
| Device | Maker | US price | Regions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video Doorbell (Wired) | LG | $249.95 | US, Canada, UK |
| Floodlight Cam (Plug-In) | LG | $399.95 | US, Canada, UK |
| Outdoor Cam (Plug-In) | LG | $299.95 | US, Canada, UK |
| Indoor Cam (Plug-In) | LG | $199.95 | US, Canada, UK |
| Smart Deadbolt Lock | LG | $349.95 | US, Canada |
| Smart Thermostat | LG | $199.95 | US, Canada |
| Smart Thermostat | Schneider Electric | $199.95 | US, Canada |
| Temperature / Room Sensor | LG / Schneider | $39.95 | US, Canada |
The products start shipping in December, some accessories in early 2027. The lock unlocks as you walk up with your iPhone and keeps working without internet. The cameras record to built-in storage during a Wi-Fi outage.
Cameras need HomeKit Secure Video and iCloud+
HomeView's camera features run on HomeKit Secure Video: the recording history, the detection of people, known faces, pets, parcels and cars, and the "Home Camera" face that shows up to nine live streams at once. For the history you need an iCloud+ plan. Apple's tiers for the Home Collection cameras:
- 50 GB: one camera
- 200 GB: up to five cameras
- 2 TB: no limit
Video descriptions and natural-language search on top of that need an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence. Outside the Home Collection, check that a camera supports HomeKit Secure Video specifically, not just "Works with Apple Home". Eve Cam and Eve Outdoor Cam are built only for it, and models from Aqara and Netatmo support it too.
Locks, heating and lights
Locks. In the US and Canada the LG Smart Deadbolt is the obvious match. In Europe the common door locks are different, so retrofit locks that sit on the inside of the door work better, for example Nuki or Aqara with Matter.
Heating. The LG and Schneider thermostats are made for North American HVAC systems. For European radiators, Matter radiator valves like Eve Thermo or a system like tado X are the equivalent.
Lights and plugs. This is the easy part. Philips Hue works through the Hue Bridge, Nanoleaf Essentials and Eve Energy plugs connect over Thread directly. Anything with the Matter logo works.
Is HomeView sold in my country?
HomeView is sold in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore and South Africa. Apple doesn't sell it in the EU, because Siri AI isn't available on iOS there, and says it is working with the EU on a solution. Every device in this article also works with a HomePod mini or an Apple TV 4K as the hub, so you can build the setup in Germany today and add HomeView later.
Make HomeView look like yours
HomeView's Photos face shows a shared album, and its screen is square at 1088 × 1088 pixels. Normal photos get cropped on the sides. The HomeView wallpaper generator makes calm square wallpapers in light and dark that fill the screen exactly.
Frequently asked questions
Does Apple HomeView work with Matter?
Yes. Apple says HomeView works with accessories that support Works with Apple Home or Matter, and Thread is built in.
Do I need a HomePod if I have HomeView?
No. HomeView is a home hub on its own. A HomePod can add better sound and Thread coverage in other rooms.
Does HomeView work with Google Nest or Ring cameras?
Ring cameras and most Google Nest cameras don't support HomeKit, so they won't show up on HomeView. For the full feature set, pick a camera with HomeKit Secure Video.
